Rev. Timothy Cummings - Diocesan Chaplain |
Greetings from the Chaplain:
On Saturday, September 20, 2008 I received a Confirmation Letter from the Vicar General concerning my appointment as Boy Scout Chaplain for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. I am grateful for the opportunity to work and minister alongside the leaders and the Boy Scouts of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. I am enclosing a bio about myself.
I was born in Rockville Centre in New York. I am the oldest of five children. I lived in Long Island, New York for 9 years, and lived in Wayne, New Jersey for another 9 years. In August of 1989, I moved south to Florida. I transferred to the University of South Florida for the fall semester. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in May of 1992. Ten days after my graduation, I was serving in the US Navy for 4 years. I served aboard 2 naval ships; the USS Orion As-18, a sub-tender, at a NATO base in Sardinia for roughly 7 months and the USS America CV-66, an aircraft carrier for over 3 years. I was a Storekeeper and worked in the Supply Department. I returned to civilian life in May of 1996. I worked for Grainger Industrial Supply as a Sales Team Leader in Tampa, for almost 5 years. While working at Grainger, I also volunteered at my home parish of Nativity in Brandon teaching Confirmation to the tenth grades students and serving as a Core Team member of the Life Teen program.
In August of 2001, I began my seminary formation for the Diocese of St. Petersburg at St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami. The following six years I studied Theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Fl. I was recently ordained to the priesthood this past May 2008 at the Cathedral of St. Jude in St. Petersburg. My first parish assignment is at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin.
I am looking forward to ministering and meeting you in the near future. May God be with us in our journeys. God bless.
Fr. Tim Cummings
Note: Father Tim assumed the duties of Diocesan Scout Chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting on October 3, 2008 and was officially installed at the Annual Boy Scout Retreat held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp in Floral City. He replaces Father Anthony Coppola who served as the fifth Scout Chaplain in the history of the diocese.
