If you unit is making plans for summer camp and plan to transport your unit in rental vans, please take note!
The diocese has strict guidelines for parish organizations in regards to renting 15 passenger vans. Scout units must comply with all guidelines for parish organziations. The diocese recommends the following:
1. All drivers must have an approved (certified) driving screen from the diocese. This should of have been requested at the time you completed your volunteer screening application. If not, check with your parish office to make sure all drivers have been approved.
2. All drivers must have experience driving 15 passenger vans.
3. Organization must purchase insurance from the rental company. BSA or the diocese insurance does not cover you or the organization on the vehicle.
4. Smaller vans are recommended and 15 passenger vans should be used as a last resort. The diocese strongly recommends that you do not use 15 passenger vans.
5. Federal government has prohibited the use of 15 passenger vans for educational use due to rollovers and other safety issues. Scouting is considered an educational program.
